Josh Sander, a Brookline eighth grader and student at the Kehillath Israel Hebrew School, is the Grand Prize winner of The Power of Jewish Music Art Contest sponsored by the Boston Jewish Music Festival

A panel of professional artists including Carter Kasdson, painter and designer, Judi Rotenberg, painter and gallery owner, and Adina Troen-Krasnow, ceramicist and art educator, selected 24 entries for honorable mention. Along with the Grand Prize, the judges selected three pieces for special mention: Samantha Corman from Brookline for accomplishment at age 5, Noah Lindemen, age 11 of Brookline for creative concept, and Max Sidell from Sudbury for design.

According to Kasdon, "Many of the entries had surprisingly mature ideas and interesting artistic details.  Some captured the fun. Others focused on the emotions. But all the students showed great creativity in expressing how Jewish music makes them feel.

Joey Baron, Executive Director of the Festival, said that a contest such as this is just one more way the Festival can bring attention to Jewish music. "Each of the participating schools used the contest as a way to expose students to different forms of Jewish music. We want to find creative ways to make Jewish music part of our community and culture every day, not just during the Festival."
