What a perfect finale, a special performance of a Jewish Choral masterpiece under the leadership of a non-Jewish cultural treasure, Chorus Pro Musica, with the participation of Zamir Chorale and the New England Philharmonic. Commissioned by Temple Emanu-El in San Francisco and premiered in 1934, Ernest Bloch's Sacred Service is the greatest work of Jewish concert music of the 20th century. Based on Sabbath morning liturgy in the Union Prayer Book, it is in fact a grand Jewish Oratorio, with universal themes, scored for large orchestra, chorus, and baritone soloist, that has been compared in ambition to Beethoven's Missa Solemnis. The program will also include the premiere of a new commission by composer Andrew Rindfliesch.
